“Proud of our country… Greece will remain close”: Messages from Christodoulides and Dendias after the parade

Cyprus celebrated the 66th anniversary of its independence with a sense of pride

Following the conclusion of the grand military parade on October 1, President of the Republic Nicos Christodoulides and Greek Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias.

In remarks made after the parade concluded, the President of the Republic noted that the Republic of Cyprus has progressed and developed thanks to the long-standing efforts and struggles of the Cypriot people.

“We will never waver from our number one priority: the reunification of our country,” emphasized Nikos Christodoulides.

The President also referred to the presence of foreign military units in the parade, noting that it is a sign of the Republic of Cyprus’s progress and the country’s improved relations with its partners.

“We are proud of the National Guard. We are upgrading and strengthening our defense procurement programs and making the most of the tools available through the European Union. We are proud of our country,” he noted.

Nikos Dendias: Greece is and will be here; it will remain close by

For his part, Greece’s Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, described the Republic of Cyprus as a “historic achievement,” while also referring to the need to maintain a strong deterrent capability.

“An example of success, an example of prosperity. We will not forget a country that has been experiencing the consequences of invasion and occupation for half a century,” he said.

Mr. Dendias noted that the case of Cyprus serves, as he put it, as a lesson that freedom and democracy require defensive strength and the ability to deter.

“We are building this capability in the Hellenic Republic through Agenda 2030,” he stated.

Sending a message of support to the Republic of Cyprus, the Greek Minister of Defense emphasized that “Greece will always stand by Cyprus.”

“You saw the Greek flags, the ELDYK. Greece is here and will remain here; it will stay close,” he emphasized.
