By decision of Democratic Alarm President Annita Dimitriou, attorney Petros Papadopoulos has assumed the role of Coordinating Commissioner of the Democratic Alarm’s newly formed Human Rights Policy Development Team.
Petros Papadopoulos himself announced the news; in a public post, Mr. Papadopoulos expressed his heartfelt thanks to the President of DISY for the trust placed in him and his appointment, while also emphasizing the great responsibility that he and the Group are undertaking.
“It is a tremendous responsibility for me and our team to take on these serious duties, and I am convinced that with our outstanding team, we will stand at the forefront of the defense of human rightsin Cyprus,” said Mr. Papadopoulos.
Mr. Papadopoulos also expressed his confidence that there will be excellent cooperation both with DISY Secretary for Political Modernization Xenia Konstantinou, as well as with DISY Deputy Chairman Efthymios Diplaros, whom he has always admired for their political integrity and abilities.
He made special mention of his close associates, Evros Christodoulou, Maria Theodorou, and Dina Chasapi, whom he described as “the driving force behind our team.” He also mentioned his participation in the Social Policy Task Force under the outstanding leadership of Andreas Christodoulou and the political experience he gained there.
The new Human Rights Policy Development Group aims to make a substantial contribution to the political dialogue and to the formulation of concrete and evidence-based policy proposals for the protection of humanand the creation of a society free from exclusion and discrimination.
In closing, Petros Papadopoulos sent a clear message about how the Group views its new mission: “Now is the time for hard work. After all, we’re not interested in positions of power—what matters to us and drives us is the idea of a society that is more just, more inclusive, and more humane, but at the same time meaningful and free from empty rhetoric, at the mercy of the scourge of populism.”
The DISY Human Rights Policy Development Group is immediately launching its work, with the aim of making an active and substantive contribution to public debate and policy development.
