Sophia Christodoulou Makri has assumed the presidency of EDEK, winning today’s internal party election to select the movement’s new leadership.
Sophia Christodoulou Makri is originally from Masari in Morphou and Mia Milia. She was born in 1999 and has lived in Deftera ever since.

She studied law at the University of Leicester, where she served as President of the United Kingdom Student Association, as well as President of the University’s Greek and Cypriot Community.
She holds two master’s degrees: one in European Studies from University College London (UCL) and one in Political Strategy and Communication from the University of Kent. In addition, he earned a diploma in Literature through online courses at the University of Oxford.
From 2021 to 2023, he worked in Brussels, initially at the Foundation for European Progressive Studies, the policy think tank for the European Socialists, and subsequently at the Party of European Socialists and its Youth Wing, focusing on labor and social policy.
In 2024, she was elected General Secretary of the EDEK Youth Wing, and in 2025, she was elected President of the EDEK Youth Wing.
She is also an elected member of the Audit Committee of the Young European Socialists, based in Brussels.
She currently works as a lawyer in Cyprus.
