Speaking on state radio on Monday morning, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letympiotis, urged patience until the independent criminal investigators in the “State Mafia” case complete their work. He emphasized that it is the government’s intention to ensure a “thorough investigation free from any interference.”
Responding to criticism from the opposition regarding a conflict of interest surrounding the appointment of the new criminal investigator, Ilias Anagnostopoulos—who appears to be Tal Dillian’s attorney— Mr. Letympiotis stated that the “black van” case is not among the matters under investigation.

He added that it was not the subject of the Anti-Corruption Authority’s investigation and will not be the subject of the independent criminal investigators’ inquiry.
The Government Spokesperson said that “it is deeply regrettable that attempts are being made to exploit a purely legal and institutional process for political purposes before it has even begun.”

He also emphasized that “it is dangerous to publicly prejudge the outcome of an independent investigation, to disparage individuals of recognized standing, and to create unfair impressions in order to serve petty political and partisan interests.”
In closing, the Government Spokesperson stated that Mr. Anagnostopoulos will be appointed at the next meeting of the Council of Ministers.
