The President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, will travel tomorrow morning to El Alamein, Egypt, where he will participate in the Trilateral Summit between Cyprus, Greece, and Egypt, alongside Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, at the invitation of President al-Sisi.
The Trilateral Summit is taking place at a particularly important juncture for the broader region. In light of broader geopolitical developments, the importance of stable and long-standing cooperation between Cyprus and Egypt is highlighted even more, as well as the value of close coordination through regional cooperation frameworks, with particular emphasis on the trilateral partnership between Cyprus, Greece, and Egypt.
The trilateral framework has established itself as an important mechanism for regional coordination and cooperation, capitalizing on the geographical location of the three countries, Cyprus’ and Greece’s membership in the European Union, and Egypt’s particularly important role in the Arab world and the broader region.
Prior to the Trilateral Summit, President Christodoulides will hold a bilateral meeting with his Egyptian counterpart. Relations between Cyprus and Egypt, which are rooted in long-standing historical and political ties, have expanded and deepened significantly in recent years and have now been institutionally upgraded to the level of a Strategic Partnership. Cooperation between the two countries spans a wide range of sectors, with a particular focus on energy, security, the economy, and close political and diplomatic coordination on regional and international developments.
The Trilateral Summit’s discussions will focus on developments in the broader region, as well as the further strengthening of cooperation among the three countries, with the aim of contributing to the consolidation of conditions of security, stability, and cooperation in a region of particular geostrategic importance.
As part of his visit, the President of the Republic will attend, as an honored guest of President Sisi, the opening ceremony of the El-Alamein International Airshow.
