With reference to the slogan “‘Let Ayşe Go on Vacation,’ the Turkish Ministry of National Defense chose to commemorate the 52nd anniversary of the second phase of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus on August 14, 1974.
In a post on platform X, the Turkish Ministry of National Defense reiterates Turkey’s long-standing position, characterizing the 1974 invasion as a “Happy Peace Operation.”
As it states, “on July 20, 1974, the Turkish Armed Forces launched the ‘Happy Peace Operation,’” claiming that the alleged objective was “to stop the inhumane massacres against Turkish Cypriots.”
The Turkish Ministry of Defense further claims that, following the “intransigent stance of the Greek Cypriot and Greek sides at the Geneva Conferences,” the second phase of the Turkish invasion began on August 14, 1974, under the slogan “Let Ayşe go on vacation!”
In the same post, the Turkish Ministry of National Defense states that, on the occasion of the 52nd anniversary, it commemorates “our Turkish Cypriot compatriots who were brutally massacred, our martyrs, and the veterans who have passed away,” while wishing health and long life to the surviving veterans.’
