President Christodoulides is traveling to New York, where he will address the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly and meet with the UN Secretary-General, his personal envoy, as well as with heads of state or government and leaders of organizations and multinational corporations. The President is traveling to New York from Athens, where he will arrive this afternoon to address an event organized by the Cyprus Shipowners’ Association.
President Christodoulides will begin his meetings on the evening of Sunday, September 20, with a meeting with the leaders of the Greek-American community organizations to discuss developments regarding the Cyprus issue.
Among other engagements, on September 21 at 1:15 p.m. (New York time), he will meet with King Abdullah II of Jordan, while in the afternoon he will participate in a summit co-hosted by European Council President Antonio Costa and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, focusing on multilateralism, international law, peace, and prosperity.
On Tuesday, September 22, he will attend the opening of the General Assembly, during which the UN Secretary-General will present his Report on the Work of the Organization, while in the afternoon, the President of the Republic will meet with Javier la Rosa, President of Chevron’s Base Assets and Emerging Countries Division.
At 6 p.m. (New York time) on the same day, the President of the Republic will meet with the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy on the Cyprus Issue, María Ángela Olguín.
On Wednesday, September 23, at approximately 12:30 p.m. (New York time), the President of the Republic will address the Plenary Session of the UN General Assembly.
Later, he will participate in the proceedings of the High-Level Meeting convened by the UN Secretary-General on Climate Change, during which he will deliver remarks, and in the afternoon of the same day, he will meet with ExxonMobil Vice President John Ardill.
On the morning of Thursday, September 24, the President of the Republic will attend a working breakfast organized by the Antenna Group and the Atlantic Council on the topic of “Strengthening EU-Gulf Cooperation for Regional Security and Prosperity.”
At 10:55 a.m. (New York time), President Christodoulides will meet with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Following that, the President of the Republic will host a luncheon for the Permanent Representatives of the five Permanent Members of the Security Council.
On the morning of September 25, the President of the Republic will meet with Han Zheng, Vice Premier of the People’s Republic of China, and subsequently with representatives of the AJC.
Before departing from New York, President Christodoulides will attend a dinner organized in his honor by Cypriot diaspora organizations.
President Christodoulides, who will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kompos, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letympiotis, and Chief Negotiator Menelaos Menelaou, will return to Cyprus on the evening of September 26.
