DISY’s first statement following Averof Neophytou’s announcement that he will run in the upcoming presidential election.
In a statement, the party makes it clear that DISY “operates in accordance with its Constitution and its collective decisions, and anyone interested in running for the Presidency of the Republic certainly has every right to do so.”
However, it notes, “the only path to securing the Democratic Rally’s nomination is through the party’s established statutory procedures.”
Referring to the decision of its former president, DISY states that he “understands the importance of procedures and collective decision-making. “It is not a matter of individuals. It is a matter of institutions, respect for the tens of thousands of members, and the unity of the party.”
“The rules will be followed, and decisions will be made by the appropriate collective bodies and DISY members, in accordance with the Party Charter. The leadership of the Democratic Rally will meet tomorrow, as previously scheduled, following last week’s meeting,” the statement concludes.
