“I don’t know where all those who speak of a dead end in the Cyprus issue get their information,” said President Nikos Christodoulides as he arrived at the Cyprus Forum 2026, making it clear that “we are certainly not at an impasse.”

The President said that tomorrow he will brief the National Council on developments in New York, emphasizing at the same time that “we have a UN Secretary-General who is fully committed to the resumption of talks.”

“We support the Secretary-General’s efforts through concrete ideas concerning methodology, substance, and the terms of reference, with a steady stream of new, creative proposals that are receiving a positive response from Mr. Guterres,” he added.

Where there is an issue, Mr. Christodoulides acknowledged, it is “regarding the Turkish side’s position on a two-state solution.”

There are problems, there are challenges, but we are working “to achieve the goal of resuming talks,” he noted.

Regarding the next steps, the President said that “Ms. Olgin is coming to Cyprus on behalf of the EU, Mr. Fito is focusing his efforts specifically on Turkey,” and meetings are expected to take place between EU and Turkish officials, and “we are on track to achieve the goal of resuming talks.”
