Using the English phrase “the sky is the limit,” President of the Republic Nicos Christodoulides commented on the state of bilateral relations between Cyprus and the United States of America.
As he was leaving the Presidential Palace for his meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman, he was asked to comment on the presentation of the credentials of the new U.S. Ambassadorin Nicosia, replying that what they had said was that “the sky is the limit when it comes to U.S.-Republic of Cyprus relations.”
“To put it in four words, as we agreed with the new U.S. Ambassador, whom I will also be meeting next week in a formal meeting. Today’s meeting took place as part of the presentation of his credentials, and what we said is that the sky’s the limit when it comes to U.S.-Republic of Cyprus relations,” he said.
In a statement, the U.S. Embassy in Cyprus noted that “on September 9, 2026, the United States Ambassador to the Republic of Cyprus, John Breslow, presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Christodoulides, thereby officially assuming his duties.”

John Breslow was appointed by U.S. President Donald Trump as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Cyprus on October 21, 2025. Following the confirmation of his appointment by the U.S. Senate, he took up his duties at the U.S. Embassy in Nicosia in September 2026.
Ambassador Breslow has had a distinguished career in business, politics, and philanthropy. He was the owner and president of Linweld, Inc., one of the largest manufacturers and distributors of industrial, medical, and specialty gases, as well as welding products, in the United States.
In addition, he is a minority owner of the Vegas Golden Knights hockey team in the NHL and AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League, and previously served as an alternate representative on the NHL Board of Governors.
In public service, he served two terms as State Auditor of Public Accounts for the state of Nebraska and later ran for the office of governor of the state. In the early stages of his political career, he also served as a commissioner on the Lincoln Human Rights Commission in Nebraska.
Philanthropy has been a constant part of his career. He has served as president of the Madonna Foundation, a member of the Board of Directors of the Lincoln YMCA in Nebraska, and a member of the Board of Directors of EMT Corp.
Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He is also an experienced pilot, with more than 48 years of flying experience.
John Breslow has been married to Sonia Breslow for more than fifty years. Together they have three daughters and five grandchildren.
