Cyprus, Greece, and Egypt agreed to strengthen their military cooperation as part of a unified response to any threat.
At the conclusion of the sixth trilateral meeting of the defense ministers of the three countries in Cairo, they signed a Joint Statement to that effect.
“Strengthening the frameworks of military and defense cooperation to support the collective capacity for a rapid and unified response to any future developments regarding sources ofof any kind against the three countries.”
“We agreed on the need to further strengthen the coordination and cooperation of our armed forces through joint exercises and operations, as well as in addressing modern and cross-border threats. We placed particular emphasis on security in the Eastern Mediterranean, on safeguarding free and safe navigation, as well as the region’s critical energy infrastructure.” Vasilis Palmas, Minister of Defense
Vasilis Palmas, like Nikos Dendias, also held a separate meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
“We had the opportunity to discuss developments in the wider region and the importance of cooperation in our region for promoting peace and stability. Cyprus, Greece, and Egypt have demonstrated in practice that through dialogue, mutual respect, and close cooperation, we can make a substantial contribution to fostering an environment of security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.” Vasilis Palmas, Minister of Defense
“I presented to him the Greek perspective on the Eastern Mediterranean, our broader region. I also had the opportunity to discuss with him the reform efforts within the Greek Armed Forces, as well as our thoughts on deepening defense relations between our two countries.” Nikos Dendias, Minister of National Defense of Greece
Vasilis Palmas and Nikos Dendias held a one-on-one meeting as well as bilateral meetings with their Egyptian counterpart.
