The UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy on the Cyprus Issue, María Ángela Olguín, will be in New York this week and is expected to meet with the Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, said the Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric.
Responding to a question from CNA during the press briefing, Mr. Dujarric emphasized the need for proper preparation before convening a new meeting in an expanded “5+1” on the Cyprus issue and noted that this requires “serious discussions.”

Responding to a second question from CNA regarding the upcoming visit to Cyprus by the Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy on the Cyprus issue, María Ángela Olguín, to Cyprus, Mr. Dujarric stated that her visit is a sign of the United Nations’ continued engagement in the Cyprus issue.
“You should interpret this as a sign that she, on behalf of the Secretary-General, continues to address the Cyprus issue,” he said.
He added that the United Nations continues to work “with both the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot leaderships on the future.”
The UN Spokesperson also noted that “Ms. Olgin will be in New York this week” and that, to the best of his knowledge, “she will meet with the Secretary-General.”
Referring to the prospect of a new five-party meeting, Mr. Dujarric reiterated the UN’s position that such a meeting must first be adequately prepared.
“As we have always said, any 5+1 meeting must be properly prepared. And that requires serious discussions,” he said.
