The goal of the Greek Cypriot side for the leaders’ meeting is to have a substantive discussion on the issues raised during the UN Secretary-General’s visit to Cyprus, particularly the groundwork for the next expanded meeting.
In recent statements, President Christodoulides noted that this period will be particularly critical, with continuous and intense consultations, aimed at the convening of an expanded conference by the United Nations Secretary-General and the announcement of the resumption of talks.
Meanwhile, the United Nations is currently compiling a record of the meetings.
It should be noted that the UN Secretary-General announced, following his joint meeting with President Christodoulides and Mr. Erhurman, on July 29 in Nicosia, that he had decided to convene another 5+1 meeting, following appropriate preparations regarding confidence-building measures, methodology, and substance, taking into account the convergences that have already been achieved.
