The dispute between the government and DISY over appointments to semi-governmental organizations continues.
This time, DISY, through its Press Secretary, Onoufrios Koullas, is responding to previous statements by the Government Spokesperson, Konstantinos Letympiotis, emphasizing that the President of the Republic should address the substance of the issue rather than limit himself to “public relations soundbites.”

The statement in its entirety
The Democratic Alarm sets forth its positions and views regardless of who agrees or disagrees with it.
The President of the Republic should respond to the citizens, not to the political parties. He should respond substantively, not with soundbites that are unbecoming of the office he holds.
How did it come to be that most of the appointments were officials from a specific coalition party as well as his personal supporters? Does he want us to believe that they were the most qualified? How did some people get in through the “back door” without applying to the Advisory Committee?
We remind the President that DISY did not demand any appointments nor does it believe that political parties should be involved, contrary to AKEL’s mistaken perception. If they had taken the trouble to read our statement, they would have noticed the significant difference.
Instead, they resorted to the familiar and colorful rhetorical ploy of falsely equating DISY with AKEL.
It has now become the norm: when the government cannot justify its actions to the public—and to the media that have pointed out its shortcomings—it resorts to claiming that the parties are one and the same and considers the matter settled.
The Democratic Alarm will continue to conduct politics responsibly and make decisions guided solely by the best interests of the country.
