The European Union remains firmly committed to supporting the UN’s efforts to achieve a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus issue, stressed the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, following a phone call she had on Tuesday afternoon with the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Cyprus, María Ángela Olguín.
As she noted in a post, Ms. Kallas had “a good phone conversation” with María Ángela Olguín, ahead of her visit to Brussels on Wednesday, as well as the upcoming visit of the UN Secretary-General to Cyprus.
“The EU remains firmly committed to supporting UN-led efforts on Cyprus,” the High Representative noted.
At the same time, the two officials discussed “recent developments in the Cyprus issue and the importance of maintaining momentum toward a comprehensive settlement of the issue.”
Ms. Kalas added that they agreed to continue their discussions during the UN General Assembly this coming September.
