The President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, received this morning, at the Presidential Palace, the annual report of the Public Service Commission (PSC) from PSC Chairman George Papageorgiou and the members of the Commission.
Upon receiving the report, the President of the Republic said, among other things, that today’s discussion with the PSB focuses primarily on “how we can make the public service more effective for the benefit of the citizens to whom we are accountable.”
He added that “there is clearly room for improvement.” As he said, “significant work is being done, but there are problems and challenges that we must address through a joint effort and, ultimately, meet society’s expectations, because the fundamental goal for all of us, as long as we are temporarily serving in a position, is to meet society’s expectations.”
For his part, the President of the EDY, among other things, referred to the President of the Republic’s strong and genuine interest, as he put it, in the smooth functioning of the civil service.
He added that a major effort has been made in recent years to restructure the civil service, a process that essentially began in full in 2024, noting that there is still much room for improvement in various sectors of the civil service.
