AKEL strictly adheres to and will continue to adhere to its procedures for the 2028 Presidential Election, noted MP Andreas Pasourtidis while speaking on the “Alpha Kalimera” program.
“As you know, AKEL strictly adheres to its procedures. And I think this has been proven in all previous elections. The procedures will now begin within the collective bodies, the groups, etc., so that we can finalize the nomination and endorsement of a candidate at least one year in advance.”

“What I can guarantee you is that AKEL, when and if it selects a candidate, that candidate will garner the greatest possible support from the AKEL base—and this is not for any other reason, because the AKEL membership will participate in this process from the very beginning and will endorse him at the end of the day before he is officially supported,” he adds.
“So we believe that our procedures are designed in such a way as to allow anyone to express an opinion at any time, and the final decision is also made by the rank and file. So I believe it will be a decision made by all of us, and that is why we will also have the responsibility to support it to the greatest extent possible.”
He comments that AKEL cannot run after certain people who make statements or conduct polls. “They will certainly respect AKEL’s process, and when and if AKEL is ready, it will step forward to launch the election campaign in support of the candidate,” he concluded.
