"The Democratic Alert notes the statement by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy, Ms. María Ángela Olguín, that the inventory of points of convergence has been completed and will be made available to the parties at the start of negotiations, as well as her commitment to continue efforts to create the conditions for their resumption, with her next visit to Cyprus in October,” the party states in a press release, in the wake of recent events in New York during the President of the Republic’s attendance at the UN General Assembly.
“We believe that in the meantime, the National Council will also be convened for a comprehensive briefing by the President of the Republic on the latest developments in the Cyprus issue and the next steps,” DISY emphasizes, adding that it supports “our side’s efforts to resume substantive negotiations from where they were suspended, while safeguarding the negotiating achievements and areas of convergence.”
Our steadfast goal remains the resolution of the Cyprus problem in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and European values and principles, to end the occupation and reunify our homeland, without anachronistic guarantees or occupying forces.“We are committed to our efforts to resume substantive negotiations from where they were suspended, while safeguarding the negotiating achievements and areas of convergence,” he concludes.
