The three largest companies that expressed interest are considered among the world’s largest in the field of energy infrastructure construction.

SAIPEM“
The Italian company Saipem implemented the $4 billion North Field Production Sustainability project in Qatar, which includes floating natural gas production units at one of the world’s largest gas fields, as well as the famous Nord Stream 1 pipeline connecting Germany and Russia.”

CHINA HARBOUR ENGINEERING COMPANY “The
Chinese company China Harbour Engineering Company, which has expressed interest as part of a joint venture with Cyfield, is renowned for the construction of massive port facilities in Doha, Sri Lanka, and elsewhere.”

BARAN INTERNATIONAL “The
Israeli-owned Baran International was part of the consortium that built the $5.2 billion-dollar hydroelectric dam in Angola, built the Ilan Ramon International Airport in Israel, as well as a power and heatin Estonia.”

Among the companies interested in undertaking the completion of the Vasilikos terminal, with a budget of €180 million, are Greek and Egyptian firms. These include PETROJET—an Egyptian state-owned company specializing in the construction of energy projects—as well as the Greek companies Terna S.A., Avax S.A., and Archirodon, which have projects in Cyprus such as marinas and port facilities, and the Norwegian company ECOnnect Energy, known for natural gas projects in Germany, Norway, Mexico, and Colombia.

MICHALIS DAMIANOS—Minister of Energy (PHILENEWS)
: “Obviously, however, it will take a few months for the bids to be evaluated and this project to be awarded. We hope there will be no administrative appeals or anything else that would obviously delay the project, and we certainly believe that it will take 18 months to complete the project.”

The Minister of Energy emphasized that bringing natural gas to the country is the only way forward, as he explained, it is the only way to substantially reduce energy costs for households.
