The government expects the Republic of Cyprus to be fully integrated into the Schengen Area by 2027, with the six remaining actions expected to be completed by early November.
Speaking on state radio and television, the Deputy Minister of Migration, Nicholas Ioannides stated that, once these actions are completed, the European Commission will be informed of Cyprus’s technical readiness so that the next institutional steps can follow.
Mr. Ioannides noted that the process is technical in nature and requires coordination with the other member states, adding that bilateral contacts have already begun, including with Luxembourg.
Mr. Ioannidis explained that, once accession is finalized, internal border controls involving the Republic of Cyprus will be lifted, and the necessary information systems will become fully operational.
