Following its recent announcements regarding appointments to the boards of directors of semi-governmental organizations, AKEL is back on the offensive, launching a new attack against the government, criticizing the way the selections were made and citing “favoritism” and “cronyism.”
As stated in its press release, “N. Christodoulides promised meritocracy but ultimately surpassed even the previous DISY government in cronyism and nepotism.”
The statement in its entirety
The plundering of appointments in parastatal organizations cannot be hidden behind excuses
The more the government tries to find excuses for the cronyism it has engaged in regarding appointments to the boards of semi-governmental organizations, the more it exposes itself. N. Christodoulides promised meritocracy but ultimately surpassed even the previous DISY government in cronyism and favoritism.
Clearly, the President’s top priority is 2028, not the public interest—which can be served by capable and experienced individuals regardless of political affiliation or ideological beliefs.
In Cyprus, the Christodoulides government is writing a poor imitation of the well-known movie: “All the President’s Men.” Or rather, of the governing parties…
And one last thing: How long will the president and the members of the so-called Advisory Council continue to humiliate themselves by providing cover for the Christodoulides government’s cronyism and arbitrary rule?
