The sacrifice of the fallen and the missing, as well as that of their relatives, is both a duty and a legacy for the state, said the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Tina Pavlou, representing the President of the Republic, at the annual memorial service for the fallen and missing of the Community of St. Ambrose in Kyrenia, which was held on Sunday at the Metropolitan Church of St. Barnabas in Kokkinotrimithia.

“We are here to affirm that neither their sacrifice nor their absence can be consigned to oblivion. Their names remain deeply etched in our collective memory and in our historical consciousness. And along with them, the expectation of vindication remains alive—the hope of returning to Agios Amvrosios and to every occupied corner of our homeland,” the Deputy Minister stated.

She noted that the toll on Agios Amvrosios from the Turkish invasion was heavy, “with a total of thirteen young men from the community lost in the maelstrom of war.” Of these, six have been identified as fallen soldiers, while seven remain on the list of those missing in action.

The Deputy Minister expressed, on behalf of the State, unwavering respect and affirmed that their sacrifice constitutes “an enduring debt and a legacy of responsibility, until the liberation and reunification of the homeland.”

She emphasized that determining the fate of even the last missing person is a moral, humanitarian, and national duty.

“The Cyprus issue is the greatest and most important priority. The President of the Republic is working tirelessly to resume substantive negotiations, based on the agreed framework, with respect for the negotiating acquis and the principles, values, and law of the European Union,” Ms. Pavlou stated.

“We have one goal, and we will not stop until we achieve it: An end to the occupation and the achievement of a functional and sustainable solution that will reunite our homeland—a European homeland— in which all its lawful citizens will be able to live in conditions of security, peace, dignity, and full respect for their human rights and fundamental freedoms,” he concluded.
