The Cyprus Writers’ Union awards the “G.F. Pieridis” Prize to Kostas Lymbouris

The award will be presented at a special ceremony on September 30, 2026, at the RIK Theater.

The Cyprus Writers’ Union (ELK) is organizing on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 7:30 p.m., at RIK’s “Andreas Christofides” Theater, the “G. F. Pierides” Award Ceremony.

The 2025 award is being presented to writer Kostas Lymbouris for his long-standing, multifaceted, and substantial contributions to the fields of culture, literature, and the arts.

The award ceremony will be addressed by the Director of the Deputy Ministry of Culture, Mr. George Papageorgiou, and the President of the Hellenic Literary Society (ELK), Ms. Konstantia Sotiriou. Mr. Andreas Hatzithomas, publisher of the magazine “Diorama,” will speak about Mr. Lymbouris’s literary work, while historian and diplomat Dr. George Georgis will speak about the honoree’s contribution to culture.

Composer Savvas Savva will perform a musical interlude. The award ceremony will be hosted by Evangelia Charalambous, author and member of the ELC.

A light reception will follow.

The event is held under the auspices of the Deputy Ministry of Culture and is dedicated to the memory of Olga Pieridou.

Reason for the Award

Kostas Lymbouris served the education of our country with zeal and distinguished himself not only for his work in education, but also for his contributions as an official or ordinary member of the boards of directors of educational and cultural associations, clubs, and associations, as well as a member of Ministry of Education committees for book publishing.

He is a renowned and award-winning prose writer. Four of his short story collections were shortlisted for the State Literary Awards, and he has won two State Literary Awards. Many of his short stories have been published in major literary journals in Greece and Cyprus, in special-edition volumes, and on literary blogs, and his works have been translated into several languages.

His contribution to literary and cultural events is particularly significant. He served as a member of the Editorial Board of the literary journal Ylantron and as a Cultural Advisor at the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Athens. At the same time, he has served and continues to serve in various positions of responsibility in the fields of literature and culture, as chair of the Judging Committee for the Short Story Contest of the cultural magazine *Nea Epoca*, as a member of the award committee for the Teukros Anthia–Thodosis Pieridis Prize, and as chair of the Advisory Committee of the Nicosia Book Festival.

He has been honored for his contributions to culture by the “Stelios Hatzioannou” Foundation, the Panhellenic Association of Philologists, and the Association of Greek Cypriot Philologists (OELMEK). In 2024, he was named an Honorary Member of the Union

Cyprus Writers’ Association.

In recognition of his long-standing, multifaceted, and substantial contributions to literature and, more broadly, to culture, as described above, the Cyprus Writers’ Union, at a special meeting on December 5, 2025, decided to award him the “G. F. Pierides Prize” for the year 2025.
