Karl Lagerfeld was a genius who bridged the worlds of art and fashion
More than 1,000 unpublished personal sketches by the late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld will be sold at an auction in Paris.
The online auction by Sotheby’s will take place from July 2 to July 8. The sketches are on display in an exhibition in the French capital through July 7.
The extensive collection includes historical designs dating back to the 1970s. Many of these working documents and satirical political illustrations remained strictly private during the lifetime of the creative director of Chanel and Fendi.
The fashion designer was known for his passionate collecting habits, which spanned various eras of art and design. Carefully preserved throughout his life, these archives bear witness to an insatiably curious mind that collected images, references, and inspirations with an almost obsessive dedication, according to a statement from Sotheby’s.
It is also noted that, in addition to traditional works on paper, the collection includes approximately 200 iPods.

The auction features items from the world of Karl Lagerfeld, a visionary designer who, until his final days, continued to shape the image and legacy of the world’s leading fashion houses, the report notes.
