The cultural group “Dimiourgain” is organizing the traditional music and dance festival “Lakkirtin Fest” for the fourth consecutive year, on Sunday, July 19, 2026, in the streets of the Avgorou community.
The festival will take place in the streets and neighborhoods of the community, transforming Avgorou into a vibrant space for cultural expression, featuring music, dance, and theatrical performances. The public will be able to participate freely at the various stops along the route.
Event Schedule
The parade will begin at the Avgorou Ethnographic Museum at 6:00 p.m., where, accompanied by street musicians, the parade will begin with traditional Cypriot songs and dances from the wider Greek tradition. In addition to professional musicians, anyone who plays traditional instruments is welcome to
join the procession.
From there, accompanied by musicians, we will make our way to the first stop, the Avgorou community square, where the Limassol Folklore Society will present a program of Thracian dances accompanied by live music. Next, the procession will head to the second stop, the restored Tsibouris House, where the courtyard will host the “By the Lake” Cultural Workshop “By the Lake,” which will present a program of traditional dances from Macedonia, with the opportunity for attendees to join in freely. Afterward, we will make our way to the third stop, the Church of St. George in the center of the community, where the children’s section of the “Dimiourgain” Theater Group will present a theatrical performance inspired by the cycle of folk songs.
At the end of the procession, we will make our way to the Avgorou Ethnographic Museum, where everything will be ready for a traditional celebration designed to highlight the living tradition that each of us “keeps” alive within ourselves. Circular dances—with hands clasped tightly—will bring us together once again in a musical and dance-filled circle of life. The celebration will be led by musicians Andreas Siantanis, Kyriakos Hatzandreou, Theofanis Theofanous, Gregoria Nikola, and the Greek ensemble Kuprum Orchestra, featuring Laurent Clouet, Alexis Fourkas Georgiadis, Vasilis Pallikaris, and Yiannis Laoutaris.
Over 10 musicians from Cyprus and Greece, as well as dance troupes from Cyprus, will participate in the event, offering a unique experience of cultural revival and audience participation. This event, which aims to become an annual tradition, is steeped in elements of folk
culture and hopes to bring back old memories for older generations and guide young people toward respect and anpreservation of our intangible cultural heritage.
It should be noted that the festival is organized through the selfless efforts of its organizers, and one of the event’s primary goals is to provide financial support to vulnerable groups in our society.
For this reason, all net proceeds will be allocated to meet the above-mentioned needs.
All it takes is a positive attitude, the freedom to express your emotions, and a desire to revive folk culture as a living experience rather than a museum exhibit. We invite you to join us!
