A Three-Stringed Journey

A tribute to the three-stringed bouzouki and the timeless evolution of Greek folk music. The musical performance “The Three-Stringed Journey” will be presented in August and October in Galata, Kambi Farmaka, and Pano Platres as part of the 2026 Cultural Decentralization Program.

The performance traces the evolution of Greek folk music from rebetiko to art music, highlighting the decisive role of the three-stringed bouzouki in shaping our musical tradition.

Rebetiko

One of the most significant chapters in Greek musical tradition, recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Rembetiko song comes to life through a unique musical performance dedicated to its history, authenticity, and timeless value. Through beloved songs that capture the experiences and social reality of their time, the performance highlights the richness and uniqueness of rebetiko. A special highlight of the production is the participation of the acclaimed rebetiko singer Giorgos Tzortzis, whose long-standing presence and deep knowledge of the genre lend authenticity and special artistic significance to the event. Short narrative texts complement the musical program, offering the audience a comprehensive introduction to the history and cultural significance of rebetiko music.
