The well-known actress explains which three movies she’s seen recently have left a lasting impression on her
I’m listing the first three movies that came to mind. I saw them relatively recently, and for different reasons, they left a lasting impression on me.
Oliver Laxe’s *Sirât* (2025), a film that really impressed me. I can still hear the film’s music ringing in my ears—it swept me along as if I were hypnotized. The scene where the characters walk through a minefield is fantastic… (spoiler) Some are reduced to dust, becoming one with the desert, while others manage to cross the “bridge.”
Also, Andrea Arnold’s *Fish Tank* (2009). The director spotted the lead actress through a casting assistant outside a train station, arguing with her boyfriend. I really love this story, because it’s as if the lead actress already belonged in the film before shooting even began. The film carries a raw yet lyrical realism, with a documentary-like authenticity. The dialogue is so relatable, and there’s so much humanity in the film’s characters.
Justine Triet’s *Anatomy of a Fall* (2023), starring one of my favorite German actresses, Sandra Hüller. The protagonist is accused of murdering her husband, with her son—who has a severe visual impairment—as the sole eyewitness.
Hüller’s performance keeps the viewer in a constant state of doubt. The dialogue is clever, and the film draws a parallel between the crime and the gradual breakdown of a marriage. Furthermore, the sole witness to this tragedy is someone who cannot see clearly—just like the viewers of this film.
