“You left us too soon, my boy”: Antonis Remos bid farewell to Giorgos Mazonakis in front of thousands of people

“You left us too soon, my boy,” said Antonis Remos, visibly moved, before singing “I Belong to Myself” with a photo of Giorgos Mazonakis prominently displayed on the giant screen.

At a grand celebration marking his 30 years in Greek music, Antonis Remos chose to dedicate one of the first and most powerful moments of the evening to Giorgos Mazonakis, just a few days after his sudden death at the age of 54.

On the evening of Saturday, September 12, thousands of people gathered at Nea Paralia in Thessaloniki for Antonis Remos’s big anniversary concert. Rain caused a delay of about two hours, and for quite some time there was uncertainty as to whether the concert would ultimately take place.
