The Stoiximan Super League season is in full swing and is now entering its third round.
AEK will host Aris at Allwyn Arena, with the defending champions looking to put their draw against Kifisia (1-1) behind them, while the “Yellows” are on a roll, having gotten off to a perfect start to the new season.
Marco Nikolić, despite the fact that the opening match of the top interclub competition, the Champions League opener against Linz, is fully focused on the match against Aris, as he wants to see his team put last week’s setbacks behind them and get back to winning ways.
The Serbian coach was furious with his team’s performance in the previous match and the 1-1 draw, pushing his players hard to shake them out of their slump. It seems that their huge success—qualifying for the Champions League group stage with a 4-0 victory over Levski Sofia—threw the “yellow-and-blacks” off their game, something Nikolić certainly does not want to see happen again.
On the field, AEK is fully prepared for this match, with no major absences and all players available to the Serbian coach. There will certainly be changes to the starting lineup compared to the Greek Cup match against Nestos Chrysoupoli (0-2), with Vitalis vying for a spot in the starting lineup alongside Marin, while Varga, Jović, and Mayer are expected to return to the starting lineup.
On the other side, Michalis Grigoriou sees Aris off to a very strong start to the season, with a perfect 3-0 record. A winning start in the Greek Cup League Phase qualifiers against Anagennisi Karditsas (0-2), a strong start to the league season with an epic comeback against Kalamata, and a victory over OFI (2-1) in the most recent match.
The experienced Greek coach, of course, will not have Fabiano at his disposal, as the center back has not yet recovered from the injury that has been plaguing him, with Soutalos the favorite to partner Jensen in the center of the defense.
Probable starting lineups:
AEK (M. Nikolić): Strakosa, Pilios, Relvas, Mukundi, Rota, Vitalis, Marin, Koita, Mayer, Jović, Varga.
Aris (M. Gregoriou): Velcho, Richards, Jensen, Sútalo, Fadiga, Račić, Dele-Bashiru, Palasios, Garé, Garcia, Kantevere.
