Vasilis Ioannou signed his first professional contract with AEK. The 18-year-old guard (1.91 m), who has signed a 3+1-year contract, will be loaned out for the upcoming season to Papagou, which plays in the Elite League.
The young star won the ESKA championship with AEK’s youth team, and in March 2025, he also played for the men’s team against Marousi.
The announcement:
AEK BC is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with Vasilis Ioannou to sign his first professional contract.
Vasilis has signed a four-year (3+1) contract with the “Queen,” running through the summer of 2030.
For the 2026–2027 season, he will be loaned to A.S. Papagou.
Vasilis was born on December 1, 2008, and is 1.91 meters tall.
The international captain of the ESKA Championship-winning AEK Junior Team came up through the AEK BC ACADEMY “youth system,” participated in the Men’s Team’s activities for two years, and was naturally rewarded for his progress and his dedication to his duties and the team’s values.
On March 23, 2025, at the age of 16 years, 3 months, and 15 days, he made his debut with the Men’s Team in the game against Marousi (104–83), scoring his first 2 points (on 2-for-2 free throws) in 1 minute and 26 seconds of playing time, and became the second-youngest player—in the history of the professional league—to play for the “Queen.”
Vasilis, we wish you, above all, good health and every success in the future.
