Starting today, AEK enters the final stretch of its preparations for the big rematch against Levski Sofia, which is scheduled for Wednesday (Aug. 26, 10:00 p.m.) at the “Allwyn Arena.”
Marko Nikolić is not expected to make many changes from the first game, however, there are still some unanswered questions, mainly regarding the status of Aboubakar Koita, as well as the options up front.
Koïta was left out of the squad for the match against Heraklis as a precaution, but the AEK coach made it clear after the league opener that he is expected to be available for Wednesday’s match. Whether or not he starts is one of the key questions that will be decided during the final training sessions.
In terms of formation, AEK is expected to revert to a 4-4-2, with Strakosa in goal and Rota, Pilios, Relvas, and Mukundi making up the back four.
In midfield, Kairinen and Marin are the frontrunners to form the starting duo, while Lovro Mayer is also in Nikolić’s starting plans.
The biggest interest, however, lies in the attacking line. Competition there is fierce, as three players are vying for two spots. Zini, Jović, and Varga are battling it out for a starting spot, with Nikolić set to make his final decision shortly before kickoff.
