AEK on the basketball scandal: “We will be relentless; the need for a clean slate is more urgent than ever”

What the announcement states
ALPHANEWSLIVE

AEK BC issued a strong and accusatory statement regarding the rapid developments of the past few days and the major scandal that has rocked Greek basketball.

The “yellow-and-blacks” referred to the actions they have taken and the complaints they have filed over the years regarding the “malpractices” in Greek basketball, as they specifically emphasize.

“With… no sense of relief whatsoever, but with skepticism about the future, we have recently been following the events unfolding and being revealed in Greek basketball—four years late…,” the Association states, among other things, emphasizing that the documents that have come to light confirm what it had claimed in February 2020 and April 2021, when it “protested” that it had been wronged in two games against Promitheas.

Finally, AEK BC made it clear that it will continue its relentless fight for justice and the “cleansing” of Greek basketball.

“The full statement reads:

It was June 15, 2022…

When we were alone, but proud!

That was when we filed a lawsuit denouncing the “malpractices” in Greek basketball and informed the AEK community about the “organized plan to destroy” our team.

It was November 16, 2024…

Back then, when our fans, our coach, our player Kuzminskas, the management—even the… armchairs—were all expelled during the game against Prometheus at the “D. Tofalos” arena… That was when… all of Greece saw… Or rather, “all of Greece saw it all over again”…

And what followed were campaigns of silencing and shaming against AEK, its majority shareholder, and its coach… Despite all this, we never stopped standing up for what is right and denouncing what is wrong.

We have always been in favor of the solitary path, of effort, and of reconciliation. We have never been vindictive, but we could not (and can never) remain idle in cases where some have disrespected (or continue to disrespect) our history. That is why our response has been strong for many years, including filing complaints with the relevant prosecutorial authorities.

For this reason, not only the club’s management and head coach, but also club officials, found themselves in the “eye of the storm,” and went from being victims… perpetrators, and from accusers… to defendants—sometimes in criminal courts, and sometimes before “ethics committees,” where they were summoned to prove the… self-evident.

With… no sense of relief whatsoever, but with skepticism about the future, we have recently been following the events unfolding and being revealed in Greek basketball—four years late…

Obviously, this doesn’t come as a surprise…

Today,

we note with sadness—and based on the court documents being leaked across the media—that our suspicions have been confirmed.

According to press reports, during the AEK-Promitheas Final on February 16, 2020, some individuals approached the referee of the match in an attempt to influence him to treat our team unfairly. Meanwhile, according to a revelation by a television station, during the Promitheas-AEK League match, “instructions were given” to eject one of our players (Kuzminskas) following an order from above.

There was also a report regarding the Promitheas-AEK match on April 14, 2021…

In any case, AEK BC’s legal department will request the case file and intends to support the charges in order to defend its interests, but will also take any other legal action in order to seek compensation for the moral, financial, and competitive damage it has suffered.

We assure everyone—and first and foremost the AEK community—that we will be relentless. We will continue the “Uncompromising” campaign, which we launched four years ago, with even greater intensity and even better coordination, until we achieve full justice. With such corruption all around us, the wave of dissent will reach its peak in the coming days.

The need for a clean slate is more urgent than ever!

So that Greek basketball can regain its lost credibility and dignity…”.
