After putting in a dismal performance and paying dearly for the absences of Bartley and Ertel, AEK suffered a crushing 103-76 defeat at the hands of Antwerp at the SUNEL Arena and now faces an uncertain future in the Basketball Champions League.
AEK struggled terribly on defense, allowing the Belgian champions to make 15 of 33 three-pointers and grab 16 offensive rebounds. Landers Nolley stepped up offensively with 23 points, but he had no support. The score in the second half was 26-55!
AEK’s next BCL game is against Falco in Hungary on November 4. AEK had not lost at home in the BCL for nearly two years, having recorded 16 out of 17 wins leading up to tonight’s game. It should be noted that the first-place team in the group advances directly to the Top 16, while the second- and third-place teams play in the playoffs against a team from Peristeri’s tough group (Murcia, Bamberg, and Varese are the other teams).
Quarter scores: 25-25, 50-48, 62-76, 76-103
