In a complete reversal of the situation regarding the Trey Lyles case, the Canadian forward—despite having been linked to EuroLeague teams, including Panathinaikos, has found the contract he was seeking in the NBA and will continue his career across the Atlantic, signing with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
According to Michael Scotto, the Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to a one-year contract with Trey Lyles, with the 30-year-old forward returning to the NBA following his stint with Real Madrid.
Lyles returns to the world’s top league after previously playing for the Utah Jazz, Denver Nuggets, the San Antonio Spurs, the Detroit Pistons, and the Sacramento Kings.
In his NBA career to date, he has averaged 7.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, and he will now bolster the Timberwolves for the 2026–27 season.
The Canadian center averaged 13.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 21:11 of playing time over 42 EuroLeague games; he scored 21 points in the first half of the finals against Olympiacos, but he is ultimately returning to the NBA for the 11th season of his career in the league. In 650 regular-season games in the NBA, Lyles has averaged 7.6 points and 4.3 rebounds.
