Shane Larkin left Efes for Fenerbahçe, but the reason wasn't financial. As the American (with a Turkish passport) guard pointed out, several of the promises made to him were broken.
“It was never about the money. If I’d wanted to, I could have gone and earned 10, 12, or even 15 million dollars. I could have bought my Ferrari and driven it to practice every day. I want to be one of the best of all time. In fact, I want to be the best. But some things were missing. I respect everyone. I’m a soldier. I’ll go to war against whoever you put me up against. But they told me I’d be the number one player on this team, and suddenly they pulled the rug out from under me. I slipped and fell on my head. You say, “We can’t lose this player,” and then you lose him. Then you say, “We can’t lose this one either,” and you lose him too. Of course, that’s frustrating. “You tell them to do ‘A,’ and they go and do ‘B,’” Larkin said.
