Diego Maradona’s death was sudden, according to the testimony of a medical examiner who was also the last witness for the defense in the ongoing trial in Argentina.
Pablo Ferrari, among other things, left open the possibility that Diego’s death was due to COVID, while throughout his testimony, his statements essentially refuted the speculation that Maradona had endured significant suffering leading up to his death.
“The critical period lasted from a few minutes to a few hours; it was very brief. I cannot, from a medical standpoint, support the claim that he suffered for many hours. It was sudden,” Ferrari testified in court, with his statements contradicting those of other witnesses.
Ferrari also noted that the legendary ace’s death was not due to pulmonary edema, as his body showed no signs that would support that conclusion.
“A drowning person constantly struggles for oxygen. A patient who is suffocating is desperate. However, in this case, there were no injuries resulting from a struggle, so his agony could not have lasted more than a few minutes,” he added.
Next week, the defendants will present their closing arguments.
