Alarm in Paris over Kvaratskhelia – Fears of serious damage to the cruciate ligament

Concern following the injury
ALPHANEWSLIVE

There is great concern at Paris Saint-Germain over Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, who was forced to leave the Champions League match against Barcelona due to injury. The Georgian winger injured his right knee shortly before the one-hour mark and remained on the ground for quite some time, before being helped off the field by the medical staff, unable to put his full weight on his leg.

The sight of the incident immediately raised fears of an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Analysis of the mechanism of the injury indicates that Kvaratskhelia’s knee appears to collapse inward, while a forward displacement of the tibia is also evident, movements that may be associated with an ACL injury (torn anterior cruciate ligament). Estimates have even circulated suggesting he could be out for seven to eight months, however, Paris has not yet announced an official diagnosis, and imaging tests will determine the actual extent of the injury.

Kvaratskhelia was substituted in the 59th minute, with the score tied 1-1 at that point. Marquinhos also left the game during the same phase of play, while Paris had already lost Ousmane Dembélé in the first half, who felt discomfort in the back of his left thigh and was substituted in the 19th minute.

As a result, Luis Enrique is now anxiously awaiting medical updates on three of his starting players, during a stretch of back-to-back games. The greatest concern, of course, is Kvaratskhelia’s situation, as if tests confirm a complete cruciate ligament tear, he will be out for several months and surgery is highly likely.
