An unthinkable “Self-Goal” for dortmund and a victory that slipped through their fingers

A draw against werder
ALPHANEWSLIVE

Dortmund’s first loss of points came in a particularly painful way. The Westphalians thought they had found the path to victory with two goals in the 80th and 85th minutes to take a clear 2-0 lead, which, however, they threw away just before the final whistle. In the 90th minute plus 2, Werder struck back and tied the game at 2-2, a result that forced them to drop points in the Bundesliga for the first time.

With Konstantinos Karetsas remaining on the bench in the first half, the home team struggled to create many chances against Werder and saw the first half end scoreless. In the 72nd minute, Kovac sent the Greek forward into the fray to boost his team’s attacking momentum, and eight minutes later, Dortmund scored off a play that began with his feet.

Following a deep ball behind the defense, the Westphalians launched a counterattack, and as the play developed, Svensson scored from close range to make it 1-0. Five minutes later, Schlotterbeck found the back of the net with a header off a corner kick to double his team’s lead and cement what seemed like an unshakable advantage, which, however, collapsed in just four minutes.

First, in the 88th minute, Reis pulled one back for Werder with a long-range shot, putting them back in the game, before Filkrug scored with a header in the 90th+2 minute to make it 2-2, stunning the Westphalians and forcing them to suffer their first league slip-up, which could very soon lead to… a tie with Bayern at the top of the standings.
