Andreas Samaris is starting a new chapter in his soccer career as he returns to Benfica, this time not as a player but as a coach.
The Portuguese club announced the organizational structure of its youth academies for the 2026–27 season, with the former Greek international midfielder taking over as head coach of the U-16 team, thus taking his first steps as a head coach.
Samaris played for Benfica from 2014 to 2021, winning titles and earning the admiration of the club’s fans. After retiring from playing, he decided to pursue a career in coaching, having already earned his UEFA B license.
Benfica’s U-16 team competes in the second division of the Portuguese U-17 league, an age group considered particularly important for the development of young players as they move up to the club’s senior teams.
