Carlos Sainz will continue to be Williams’ key driver, as the team has agreed with the Spanish driver to extend their partnership.
The agreement is for two years, with Sainz remaining with the team in both 2027 and 2028, though he has the option to leave at the end of the first year if the relevant clauses are triggered.
Sainz will now earn approximately 30 million euros per year, a sum that places him among the elite of Formula 1’s highest-paid drivers.
Only Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, and Lando Norris are at the same level or higher on that list. In fact, his earnings are set to increase by about a third, as he was reportedly earning close to 20 million euros until now.
Sainz had also received interest from other teams, including Audi, but chose to remain with Williams. He has expressed his confidence in the project and in James Vowles’ efforts to restore the historic team to the top ranks.
Williams is coming off an outstanding 2025 season, when Sainz celebrated two Grand Prix podium finishes and a third-place finish in a Sprint race, playing a decisive role in securing fifth place in the constructors’ championship.
