Olympiacos BC presented its new partnership with SUPERBET, as well as its second appearance featuring Gian Montero as the main “star”!
The club’s owners, Panagiotis and Giorgos Angelopoulos, after commenting on the new partnership with SUPERBET, answered questions from the press. One of the questions concerned the contract renewals of Thomas Walkup, Tyler Dorsey, and Kostas Papanikolaou.
Panagiotis Angelopoulos’s statement: “This
is an opportunity for people to hear our position. A contract is an agreement that both sides honor. If you look at the reality of the media coverage after winning the league title and the EuroLeague, I don’t know if that happens anywhere else. When the team succeeds, the player wants more money. When the player underperforms, he still gets his money as usual. And we’re the ones who lose out either way. There’s an astonishing lack of restraint—you just say, “Let so-and-so get 2 and so-and-so get 3.”
The words “budget” and “salary cap” are ignored. Those two words are ignored. For a team to remain competitive, certain conditions must be met. I don’t think that if we start handing out 2 and 3 million euros, anyone will be motivated to win the EuroLeague.”
At the same time, Giorgos Angelopoulos went on to express optimism that everything will go well regarding the contract renewal with Kostas Papanikolaou.
“Olympiacos respects its players. We hope to continue with Kostas; he’s our captain. That respect is a given. We can’t discuss every situation publicly. The salary cap issue isn’t being discussed in detail, and everyone is trying to adapt. We want to do the best we can within the framework that has been established and is currently in effect.”
