Alarm bells are ringing in France ahead of Olympiacos’s match against Marseille.
The “Red-and-Whites” will travel to Marseille to play at the “Velodrome” on October 15 for the second matchday of the Europa League, with French authorities classifying the game as very high risk in terms of potential incidents.
Ronan Delcroix, an official with the French Directorate for the Fight Against Hooliganism (DNLH), spoke about the match, explaining that European matches involving large-scale fan travel require extensive preparation.
“European competitions, especially with the new format, always have an element of unpredictability. We’re keeping a very close eye on Galatasaray’s upcoming visits; they’ll be coming to France twice, first to Lille and then to Paris. We also have Olympiacos, which will visit Marseille in mid-October. We are aware of the rivalries that exist with certain Greek clubs, as well as the friendly relationship between Marseille fans and those of AEK. Therefore, it goes without saying that we will be monitoring these matches very closely,” he said, before adding:
“We are not making any classifications before the scheduled time. What we can be certain of is that this will be a very high-risk match and will necessarily be classified at a high level, as there are real risks.”
