Anorthosis: Improvement without results, “alarm bells” in the backfield, and complaints about the refereeing

Defensive problems and the controversial plays that sparked reactions
ALPHANEWSLIVE

Anorthosis remained winless for a second straight game, falling 3-1 to Apollon and leaving the “Alphamega Stadium” empty-handed.

“The Lady” may have put up a better showing compared to the season opener, however, as Nestor El Maestro acknowledged in the press conference, in soccer it’s ultimately the result that counts, and the team once again failed to get the result they needed.

In terms of creativity, the Famagusta team was more active, scoring a goal by Kiko (45+8′) from the penalty spot and recording seven shots on goal, while Da Cruz also had a goal disallowed. However, they lacked efficiency and staying power.

Of course, the main problem lay in the backline, where they conceded goals too easily, failed to mark opponents properly, and were unable to cover open spaces effectively. This carelessness has allowed Anorthosis’s opponents to score five times (!) in just two “rounds.”

Just like last year, the “Lady” knows she faces a difficult task with an incomplete roster and weaknesses; however, the fact that it hasn’t managed to pick up even a single point is concerning, and even though we’re still at the starting line, if they continue at this pace, they’ll find themselves with their backs against the wall early on and will… run and never catch up.

The need for a win is urgent, and the entire El Maestro squad must show some “vitality” in its next match against APOEL on Saturday (September 12, 7:00 p.m.).

Beyond that, the Famagusta team has complaints about the refereeing in the derby. Specifically, they expressed their dissatisfaction with the disallowed goal by Da Cruz, an offensive foul by Bergström on Eskritse at the start of the play, and the awarding of the penalty kick, which allowed Ozblot to set the final score.

Spokesperson Charalambos Parpetas left open the possibility that the club’s management might file a complaint after reviewing the plays again.
