Manchester City is fighting back just an hour after the “bombshell” announcement by the Premier League’s independent Commission, which found the club guilty of serious violations of the league’s financial regulations spanning a period of nine seasons, from 2009–10 through 2017–18.
In a statement released by the “Citizens,” they express their disappointment and surprise at the turn the case has taken and the Commission’s verdict, making it clear that there is irrefutable evidence of their innocence and that they will take legal action by filing an appeal.
At the same time, the Manchester team points to substantial legal errors in the opinion, which, they argue, is legally untenable, hinting at partisan and factional influences within the Commission’s Board of Directors!
The full text of Manchester City’s statement:
“Manchester City expresses its disappointment and, at the same time, its surprise at the Premier League Commission’s ruling, which was published today.
Manchester City is innocent of the allegations brought against it by the Premier League, and there is a wealth of irrefutable evidence supporting all of its positions regarding this matter. As a result, the club will stand firm and, where necessary, take proactive action before any relevant regulatory and legal bodies.
The Premier League’s proceedings are still ongoing, with key stages yet to be completed. Manchester City will now exhaust all legal remedies available to it to file an appeal, arguing that the opinion contains clear and substantial errors of law, as well as errors regarding facts, rendering it legally untenable.
The club has consistently and diligently respected the legal process for eight years, believing that the Premier League’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee would function as an independent, impartial, and objective regulatory body, free from partisan or factional influences.
“Needless to say, the team reserves the right to make further statements as necessary until all future proceedings are concluded.”
