The comments by Atlético’s CEO—that he is disgusted by the way Barcelona is trying to sign Julián Álvarez—prompted a reaction from the “Blaugrana.” Rafa Yuste, vice president of the Catalan club, expressed his surprise and went on the counterattack.
“What surprises me is that, knowing Gil Marín as I do, he made these statements. They are rude and disrespectful. I want to say that our president, our sports department, and the entire club have been a model of hard work and professionalism for many years now. These words cross a red line. I don’t understand them at all. I don’t agree with them, and they infuriate me,” he said.
When asked if Barcelona had given up on the Alvares deal, Yuste didn’t give a negative answer. “The transfer window closes in a few days, and that’s it. I feel bad about it, I really do. What I have to do is defend the club and the professionals, like Deco and Bojan Krkic. This crosses a red line. We respect Atlético as an institution and all the players in the world. If a player wants to come, we’re thrilled,” he concluded.
