A twist in the story of Azedine Ounai’s future, with Panathinaikos keeping its (slim) hopes alive.
In recent hours, PSV Eindhoven had been considered the favorite to sign the Moroccan star, however, it appears that things have changed, with the Dutch champions now backing off.
More specifically, Dutch media reports indicate that Ounai was indeed on PSV’s radar, but now, following the arrivals of Kontay Sano and Sven Mijnans, the Dutch club has withdrawn its interest, as it is satisfied with its options in midfield.
On the other hand, Ajax remains interested in signing the former Panathinaikos player and is closely monitoring developments surrounding his situation, especially now that his future is up in the air.
Following his performance at this year’s World Cup, several top European clubs, such as Barcelona and Atlético Madrid, had expressed interest in the Moroccan international, but none went through with signing him, and as the days go by and the player remains without a team, the chances of an unexpected transfer are increasing.
We’d like to remind you that Ounai is still under contract with Girona, but following its relegation, the club is open to releasing him to any team that pays his buyout clause, estimated at 25 million euros, with Marseille retaining a 17.5% sell-on fee.
