China is the next stop for Petros Christodoulides, now ranked No. 27 in the world in the -66 kg weight class. There, he will compete in his second match of the that opened last week. The Cypriot judoka will compete in the Qingdao Grand Prix, which features 508 athletes from 58 countries.
Also competing at the Qingdao Grand Prix will be Sofia Asvestas (-52 kg), Zanet Michaelidou (-78 kg), George Krousaniotakis (-100kg), and Giannis Antoniou (+100kg).
After competing in the Mongolia Grand Slam and finishing in 9th place, Petros earned a total of 160 points toward qualifying for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
“It was an amazing match. In Mongolia, I defeated the athlete from the Philippines and then faced the World Champion and world No. 1, Takeoka Takeshi of Japan. Although I lost, I believe I fought very well and gave him a tough match. In fact, early in the match, I came very close to taking the lead. “I’m building on this strong performance and will continue training for the upcoming Olympic qualifying tournaments,” said the Cypriot judoka.
At the Mongolia Grand Slam, 9th place was also claimed by Sofia Asvestas (-52kg), Yiannis Antoniou (+100kg), and Giorgos Krousaniotakis (-100kg) took 9th place at the Mongolia Grand Slam, while Zanet Michaelidou (-78kg) also put in a very strong performance.
Regarding the Qingdao Grand Prix, Petros Christodoulidis stated:
