On the one hand, the “blue-and-yellows” are coming off a painful 3-1 loss to AEK and will be looking to bounce back to celebrate their first win of the season. On the other hand, the “Lions” are traveling to Nicosia aiming to… secure their second three points, following their perfect start against Anorthosis (2-0).
The Nicosia-based team needs to show a higher level of readiness, as it appeared in the first “round” that the squad hasn’t quite “gelled” yet. Of course, one mitigating factor is that the transfer planning was delayed, and Nikos Papadopoulos is still finding his footing. Nevertheless, with the fans behind them, APOEL knows it must accomplish its mission and gain valuable time and momentum, which will allow the team to work with greater composure as it looks ahead to the rest of the season.
The visitors are on a roll… but not everything is rosy in their camp either, as the success of the season opener was overshadowed by serious injuries to Gomis and Čataković. This development has raised major questions about how Hugo Martins will fill the gaps, as well as how much the team’s offense will be affected, having lost two very important players right off the bat.
