Greece is now hoping for a miracle to make it to the World Cup. The national team was once again unprepared for the game; it was unable to play good perimeter defense in Riga, watched Ukraine go on long scoring runs and sink numerous three-pointers, and ultimately suffered a fateful 82-76 loss in the opener of the second qualifying round
Vassilis Spanoulis’s team was mentally drained and completely unprepared; even the inspiring Nick Calathes—who finished the game with 17 points and eight assists—wasn’t enough. Dorsey’s run ended in the Round of 16, while Mitoglou had a solid performance with 13 points.
For Ukraine, Kovliar (18 points), Shulga (14), and Mikhailiuk (11) were particularly damaging.
Quarter scores: 24-19, 40-37, 64-59, 82-76.
