Maria Sakkari was eliminated in the round of 16 at the China Open.
The Greek tennis player lost 2-0 in sets to Elina Svitolina after a hard-fought match. Sakkari fought hard but lost the first set 6-4 and the second 7-5 in a match that lasted a total of 95 minutes.
In both sets, Sakkari gave the Ukrainian, the world No. 7, with the first set coming down to the fact that the Greek athlete was unable to capitalize on any of her three break points. Similarly, in the second set, she was the first to face such a break point.
Svitolina made a crucial break and went on to win the set shortly thereafter.
Her next opponent is An Li from the U.S.
